Maximize Your Daily Performance

As a wide eyed teenager, I found myself having training session after training session at 100% capacity with very little drop-off in performance. I didn’t seem to get tired at the points I did as I grew older.

But why?

Was it down to being young and full of energy? Or was it down to having a schedule that was identical every single day?

My daily life just seemed to work, it seemed to be consistent and it was extremely controllable.

Looking at the past has taught me that I could learn a lot from what I have already accomplished.

This leads me into my first tip in how to maximise your daily performance…

  1. Be Prepared

What does this even mean? Everyone will interpret preparation in different ways. So let me give you my take. Preparation for me means diarising my entire week on every Sunday. From when I am going to wake up, to when I am going to train, to complete any paperwork, reading or general learning. It seems regimented but it gets the job done, and it’s easy. It only takes roughly 5 minutes. The difficult part of this is sticking to every slot that you have booked into your diary and not letting any aspect slip. Try it for one day and the momentum will build, and it’ll build fast. So, three tips for being prepared:

  • Prepare your meals for the week – This saves time, stress, money and produces productivity.
  • Lay out your clothes for the morning – This again saves time and already ticks off one task for the morning.
  • Plan your day – Know what time you are going to wake up, set off for work, complete paperwork, train etc. This will give your day precision and clarity.

2. Think Positive

Let’s cut the bull. It’s impossible to be positive 24/7, we’re humans, and we are controlled by our emotions. However, there is the law of attraction and I am a firm believer. Look for your car keys and you’ll probably find your car keys. Look for positives and you’ll probably find positives. Ever meet that person who always sees the negative in every situation? It can be draining to be around. What about a person who sees the positive in everything? They can brighten your day. Being positive is powerful. It is a key factor in productivity and producing great results with whatever task you are completing. Here is my top tips for staying positive –

Write down three positive things that have happened in your day, every day. For example, did you get out of bed this morning? Did you laugh? See, it’s simple right? You don’t have to have broken any world records! Staying positive leads me onto my next tip…

3. Surround Yourself With Greatness

Sounds crazy, or maybe a little dramatic. However, being around a group of like-minded people with similar goals will only do one thing for you, and that is make you better. Let’s look at this in a simple way. If your goal is to grow, develop, inspire, make more money, be more successful, is that process going to happen if you are around people more interested in talking about the latest ITV celebrity program or talking about the weather? Probably not. Now, this isn’t to say that any of these things are wrong. Not at all, everyone has preference and are free to do what they like. There is a famous quote from Eleanor Roosevelt – ‘Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people’. This rings true.If you are around people on a daily basis who are working hard, progressing and inspiring, then it is very difficult to not want to board that train.

4. Have a Goal

This links heavily to being prepared. Think of it like this, how can you achieve something when you don’t know what it is you’re wanting to achieve? You may have an idea in your mind, which is definitely a great starting point, but you need to commit. The easiest way to do this is to write down your goal and look at it every single day. Envision it. Realise it. Believe in it. If you don’t believe you can achieve your goal then you probably won’t. Sometimes just getting started can be the most difficult part on our journey towards our goals. It’s that 5 seconds of courage to say yes, or say no, depending. Picture yourself exactly the same as you are now in one year’s time. Now picture yourself exactly the same as you are in five year’s time. Now go for ten years. How does that make you feel? I’m not sure about you, but that would frustrate me. Take that first step, take ten minutes and write down your goals. Really think about it. That is the first step to achieving it.

Congratulations! You are now one step closer to your goal. Like I said, this is the most important step. What’s next you may ask? Plan. Let’s take an example of what someone’s goal may be. ‘I want to stop eating junk food and snacking on processed food at random times of the day’. So that was step one, the goal is written down and the commitment has set in. Here’s step two. Prepare your meals. Meal preparation will help as you will eat the correct foods as they are there to be eaten. You won’t want to waste the time and money that has gone into that. If you eat 3 meals per day then prepare 3 meals for each day. If you get hungry in between meals then prepare a healthy snack. Nuts, kale crisps, vegetables and hummus, easy stuff. Once you have committed to that then there is no way your results won’t go into overload. So simple, so effective. Try it for a week and please post any recipe or snack ideas that you have on our Facebook page!
